The same way you’ve had to interview for your job, you should interview your Contractor. If anything, it’ll help you discover how your partnership will move forward. Keeping that in mind, the following are a list of questions you’ll probably want to ask your Pool Contractor or Landscape Architect:

  • How many years have you and/or the company been in business under the present name and present owner? Were you previously listed under a different name?
  • Have you, your partners, the owners, or officers ever declared bankruptcy or gone out of business?
  • Where is your place of business? Do you have an office or showroom?
Can you give me the names and phone numbers of at least three suppliers that you’ve done business with for the last two years?
  • Will you provide me the names and numbers of your last three customers as references?
  • Search their name on the internet.
  • Search their name on the internet.
  • Are you a current member of the APSP (Association of Pool and Spa Professionals)?
  • Call the contractor’s board (702-486-1100) to find out about the company’s status. Verify they are licensed in the state and city where building.
  • Will my payments be made payable to a business account or to a personal account?
  • Can you provide a current certificate of insurance for workers’ compensation, automobile, and general liability?
